Ge Zhu is the Technical Operations Manager at PracticePoint. He also serves as the Core Research Facility Director, overseeing all WPI internal grant–funded research activities using PracticePoint Lab facility. In this role, Ge provides training to students across various technology platforms and supports research initiatives in medical robotics at PracticePoint. Ge holds graduate degrees in Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering and previously worked as a Senior Engineer at Physical Sciences Inc. in Andover, MA.

My research interests are in the application of robotics and computer science to enhance medicine, and particularly surgery. What gets me out of bed in the morning is the prospect of helping doctors save lives and improve the quality of life of their patients. My students and I work side-by-side with clinical collaborators to create technology that presents a tangible clinical value – for instance, making an existing surgical procedure more accurate or enabling new procedures that are not feasible with current instrumentation. ...

Professor Fischer is the William Smith Dean’s Professor and a faculty member in Robotics Engineering with a appointments in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at WPI. I work with Dean Jean King, where our research is broadly focused on identifying and studying neurobehavioral mechanisms of mental illness and developing effective interventions. We currently use functional MRI (fMRI) to identify the neural correlates of mindfulness based stress reduction as part of a stage IIa randomized clinical trial, and fMRI data combined with related clinical measures to develop machine learning based early predictors of severe depression and suicidality. ...
